Minnie Pearl Made From Chicken Wire

What better way to do this as to have a local artist from the same town as Minnie Pearl to build her out of chicken wire? Why might one make “Minnie” from chicken wire you may ask? Only a hand full of sculptures have been made from chicken wire so this makes it very unique and intriguing. When people see sculptures, they often walk straight past but with chicken wire they double take and return to have a closer look. You can see their brain is trying to work out how it’s made.

Our goal is to create a project of six Chicken Wire Sculpture over the next few years for Centerville .  A place for when people coming to visit Minnie Preal’s home town from all over the world, will have a really cool experience and be very proud of small town values.

We have set a smaller goal of 10,000.00 so that we can complete the eight foot Minnie Pearl statue and start one more, that we may be able to complete in time for our Banana Pudding Festival.

The more we raise from Kickstarter the better chance we have to complete all six statue and will set Stretch Goal as we go.

Since 2009 The home town of Minnie Pearl has been with out a statue of Minnie.

Well if you are a Minnie Pearl fan you probably all ready know the story, but in case you did not. A home town fan of Grand Ole Opry star Minnie Pearl had a bronze statue built in her honor in 2005, then got mad and moved it to another town in 2009, then to a winery in 2010, then to another state in 2011.

Minnie Pearl’s statue has fled across state lines. Her owner, Rod Harris, made the statue to inspire young people in Minnie’s home town of Centerville, Tennessee. An anonymous donor covered much of its $150,000 price tag. The donation came with a caveat: The statue couldn’t be moved from its position in front of the courthouse without Harris’ permission. The notion of moving her even a few feet in either direction irritates him. “Minnie Pearl should be center-stage,” says Harris, who runs a small music management company. But after several years The City of Centerville had to changed the statue position in order to re-route the traffic and increase parking around the Square, and Rod disagreed. He eventually ended up trucking Minnie to a hotel lobby in another town, then to a nearby winery, and now he’s taken her 100 miles northwest into Kentucky. The statue currently occupies a prominent spot in the main room of the Wrather West Kentucky Museum — although Rod has reserved the right to move her again whenever he wants to.

My name is Ricky Pittman, I am the founder and owner of egrapevinestore.com.  We create grapevine arts and crafts from wild grapevines. I am a local artist from the same town as Minnie Pearl. What I am offering for you, is a chance to help me produce the Minnie Pearl Chicken Wire projects that has a one of a kind 8-foot statue of Minnie Pearl from chicken wire in this projects. It will then be donated to the town of Centerville, TN  where her journey began. The Minnie Pearl Statue will be 8-foot-tall made out of chicken wire colored bronze. I’ve already started to produce it as a personal endeavor for our town and will continue long after this Kickstarer porject is over but realized it will be very expensive to complete on my own therefore, I am asking you to help me raise enough funds to complete the statue project.

I have an Ideal! I know I can do it! What I don’t know is how long it will take or how many times I will fail. -Ricky Pittman

Minnie Pearl, a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast from 1940 until her death in 1996

Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, known professionally as Minnie Pearl, was an American country comedian who appeared at the Grand Ole Opry for more than 50 years and on the television show Hee Haw from 1969 to 1991. Wikipedia

Minnie Pearl, a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast from 1940 until her death in 1996, was country music’s preeminent comedian and one of the most widely recognized comic performers American culture has ever produced.

Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon became a spokeswoman for the medical center in Nashville where she had been treated. She took on this role as herself, Sarah Ophelia Cannon, not Minnie Pearl, although a nonprofit group, the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, was founded in her memory to help fund cancer research. The center where she was treated was later named the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, and has been expanded to several other hospitals in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Her name has also been lent to the affiliated Sarah Cannon Research Institute.

Receiving the American Cancer Society’s Courage Award, which was presented to her by President Ronald Reagan at the White House in 1987, also gave her much happiness. She did a lot of volunteer work for the society and for other charitable organizations because, she said, “I think every one of us has a social responsibility and a moral obligation to be as kind to people as we can.
